The mechanical part of the Aquabot pool cleaners move the unit and pump water. The brushes are a key part of the movement of the cleaner and the manufacturer has tested many, many compounds to find the one that performs with the best combination of traction and wear resistance. If a compound used is too soft, it will wear prematurely. Too hard and the cleaner may not climb properly due to a change in the friction against the walls of the pool. Excessive slippage causes wear, just like spinning the tires on your car and will wear prematurely.
